What we love about Sydney

Welcome

Welcome to this the second newsletter to keep you informed of news from Run the Harbour Down Under.

It is a balmy 26 degrees Centigrade in Sydney at the moment, for those of you who may be experiencing somewhat cooler climatic conditions in the northern hemisphere. Please pass this on to anyone who may be interested and invite them to email us so we can forward them a newsletter direct.

Message from Barry to the Team Captains

Hi, Happy Holidays and Seasons Greetings to all Team Captains and WARRiors. Thank you for your response as to who will be the TC for your airline for 2007 and a great WARR Down Under. Remember you are the most important link between the respective committees and the WARRiors and the final outcome to the success and number of WARRiors that attend the yearly family reunion depends entirely on your dedication and hard work. I have asked Neil to add your names to the distribution list so you can receive this newsletter quicker in the New Year. Can you please distribute this to your team members, or else email jvella@qantas.cm.au

who can update the distribution list with any runners who may be considering coming on Down Under next year. This year with the hard working Sydney Host Committee we are looking to add at least 10 new airlines. So, if you have a friend in another airline that does know about WARR, or does not attend, or may not have a Team Captain, feel free to forward this newsletter with an invitation to sign up as a Team Captain for next year.

That’s about it for now.

Regards,

Barry de Kock

Gala Dinner Venue booked

The WARR 2007 Host Committee has a booking in place for the Awards/Gala dinner at the Sydney Convention Centre. This will be a sit down 3-course dinner with an opportunity to purchase local Australian wine, beer or soft drinks. The venue has views overlooking Darling Harbour. You can see this venue via the following website: www.scec.com.au.

Australiana

Sharks, there are many sharks in the water around Australia but if you use common sense they will not worry you. Also, be careful, like any other big city you will find sharks walking the streets as well. On Australian beaches always swim between the flags on a patrolled beach. The lifesavers will sound an alarm if sharks are sighted Most Sydney beaches are netted and there are planned patrolled by aircraft during summer months.

Banners on their way

The WARR start finish banners are becoming well travelled, they started life in Calgary in 2005, made it to Amsterdam in time for WARR 2006 and have now left Amsterdam and are in London awaiting some free space to travel on to Sydney.

Many thanks to the KLM crew.

Handy hints

Air travel these days means having to make a choice, do I take cabin baggage only and risk losing, scissors, makeup, liquids etc in the pre flight search or do I put my favourite running shoes in the hold as I may not see them for a while. We know standby travel doubles the chances of hold baggage going on a later flight but do I want my suitcase to travel to Australia via Brazil? Well watch this space, as Australia will be introducing new regulations in March next year. We will keep you informed.

Jetstar International launched

Jetstar International has been launched last week

This is an international LCC that is a Qantas subsidiary.

It will be flying between Australia and the following ports by the time of WARR 2007, Honolulu. Bangkok, SGN, Phuket, Nagoya and Osaka

There are some great deals including, I noticed a firm seat for AUD300 plus taxes one way HNL SYD during Oct next year. This may be an option rather than standby. You can research them yourself at www.jetstar.com.
